Expertise Exchange: A Reciprocal Tutoring Model to Learn Software utilizes reciprocal learning to develop students’ software skills and encourage collaboration. In this model, inspired by Vygotsky’s social learning theory, students work in pairs to teach each other Macromedia Flash. One student is the designated “navigator” and accesses the online curriculum. The other student is the “driver” and manipulates the software program. The navigator instructs the driver what to do and provides him/her with feedback. The students then switch roles and repeat the lesson. The system enables students to progress at their own pace, reduces the burden on the teacher, and encourages the development of a learning community.
